CO₂ category is one of the simplest inputs on the company car BIK calculator, but it can change the BIK rate enough to alter the decision. This page explains how to use CO₂ category as a scenario variable.
In a statutory BIK framework, the rate applied to the taxable base can depend on the vehicle’s CO₂ category. That means two vehicles with the same value and mileage can still produce different BIK estimates if they fall into different categories.
Use this as a decision tool: if you are choosing between two vehicles, model both categories and compare the estimated take-home impact, not just the sticker price or gross package value.
